Haunted Halloween

Party Guide

  Haunted Halloween Party Guide

What is Halloween without some "scare" in your party? We suggest these scare tactics for children over the age of 8, but of course use your own descretion when using these tactics, some children can handle a little scare at a younger age and some children can't handle a scare at any age. If you are planning the party for older children and you have a little one who will be participating in it, it may help if you have the little one help you set up all of these scary events.

Tell some Ghost Stories:

Tidbits on ghost stories:

___ ghost stories are best around a big fire outside

___ needs to be dark with shodowy images

___ ghost stories are all about the atmosphere not necessarily what is being said. Ghost stories are non-sense stories, so they can be very imaginative.

An Idea: have someone not visible at the party until ghost stories start. Figure up a good ghost story using a costume that this person will be using. The only thing this person needs to do is walk up slowly on the group when the group is involved in listening to your story and it will scare everyone. My uncle did this to us when we were young and I remember it til this day. The story in itself was not to bad, I don't remember it but I do remember it involved an old man in coveralls and from around the house his girlfriend came just walking slowly with a limp in cover alls and an old man mask on and it scared me and my cousins to death.

Please rememeber if you do a big fire outside that the fire needs to be controled by an adult and have a water hose close by just in case.

Body Parts

___ different size boxes
___ items list (see below) for body parts
___ black sheet or tablecover

___ dusting of baby powder or powdered cocoa

Setting up:

This can be as easy to set up or as hard as you would like. The hard part is trying to figure out what ghost story to tell the children if that is how you want to do this game. First thing you need to do is create your body parts. With each box you gather up you need to put a hole in the side of each box just big enough for a hand to reach through it. Set your "Body Parts" inside of each box. Decide if you want to stack the boxes or set them side by side and then drape the boxes with a black tablecover or paint the boxes black. Add a dusting of baby powder or powdered cocoa on them to create a dust so the boxes seem old.

To Play:

Tell the kids that you found these boxes on the side of the road and you was wondering what could be inside of them. Tell them you are afraid to open them and want to know who is brave enough to reach in and feel what is in each one. Have each child take turns reaching in to fill the box contents, mention to them what you think is in each box. Or create a ghost story to tell that would have body parts in the story.

Here are some suggestions to get you started:

Eyeballs peeled grapes
intestines cold wet speghetti covered in vegetable oil
skin a piece of leather or a piece cut from a storage bag
fingers hot dogs or string cheese
teeth unpopped popcorn
hair silk from corn on the cob
hand fill a rubber or plastic glove with water and freeze it in over a bowl to help form a hand shape. right before the party set the glove in some dirt in the box and have the kids feel for the hand
liver half of a canned peach or pear
a live hand in the last box have it where someone can put their hand in there and shake each childs hand...to make it extra spooky only have the hand shake a few of the hands. everyone will get a laugh on the ones that are shaken..you will want to skip the first couple of children if you decide to only shake the hands of some children. The first children will tell everyone there is nothing in that box and then the one whos hand you shake will expect nothing to be in the box but will be grabbed.

Use your imagination..this is a fun activity for all kids of all ages

Flying Saucer Race

___ a line, like a clothes line and extra string
___ at least one donut with a hole in the center per contestant

To Set up:

Cut pieces of string long enough to hang from your clothes line to about where a childs or contestants mouth will be.

Tie a donut onto each piece of string and tie the other end to the clothesline.

To Play:

The contestants line up in front of a donut and on Mark....Set...Go see who can goble up their donut without loosing any of it to the ground. You may want to have extra donuts in case one does fall to the ground so you can tie another one up for that contestant. The object is to just use their mouth...no hands allowed. The first one who finishes is the one who saves earth from the aliens.
