Choosing the right Pumpkin for your Jack-O-Lantern:
Look for a pumpkin that is large, ripe and has smooth surfaces. A two inch stem is also a good sign of a healthy
pumpkin. If you plan to light your Jack-O-Lantern with a candle it should be at least 9 inches high. |
Keep lid from falling into Jack-O-Lantern:
Insert knife at a slight angle when cutting the lid for your Jack-O-Lantern. This will make the outside of the
lid bigger than the inside of it. Better yet instead of cutting a circle cut the lid in a hexagon shape. |
Carving your Jack-O-Lantern:
Use any characteristics within your pumpkin to help with the planning of the carving. Draw freehand on a piece
of paper your design, and use this is a template. |
Cleaning your Jack-O-Lantern:
Clean the inside of the pumpkin removing all seeds and guts. You may also want to ware down on some of the walls
of the pumpkin. Make a flat spot on the bottom for your candle to sit flat. |
Prevent Jack-O-Lantern from Collapsing:
Don't cut Jack-O-Lantern Features to Close or to large. |
Candle won't stay lit:
The candle probably is not getting enough air. Cut one of the features a little larger on the face. |
Keep your Jack-O-Lantern fresh as long as possible:
Squeeze lemon juice around the inside and along any cut edge. |
Smell of Pumpkin:
Press Cloves and cinnamon sticks into the lid of Jack-O-Lantern. Heat from the candle will create lovely autumn
smell. |
